The Utah legislature is in session and once again Utah is the butt of many jokes and a constant presence in the news. What state would designate a state handgun right after a tragic shooting in which a US Representative and 8 others were shot? Yep, Utah. Where can you introduce legislation to make it legal to shoot, decapitate or bludgeon to death feral dogs and cats? Utah, again. What state legislature is trying to wrest control of schools from the State Board Of Education because they believe it is chock full of socialists? That would be Utah's legislature. What state's governor says in his state of the state address that Utah will NOT be a colony of the United States? UTAH!
And that is just the first week of the session. I can't wait to see what the next few weeks holds for Utah and how really low the legislature can go. The legislature should be ashamed! There are so many more pressing problems such as the growing student population and the shrinking funds to educate them. But the legislature is still stewing over the fact that the public, by referendum, repealed the voucher law they passed two years ago and is going to cut education 7%, thus securing Utah's place as the lowest in per pupil funding in the US. I would like to believe that given the chance, the rational people in Utah would prevail, but the deck is stacked against them by the Eagle Forum, the Patric Henry Caucus and the Tea Baggers. They control everything about the elections by running the primaries and gerrymandering to their benefit.
Arrgghhh and phooey on them.
