We went to Idaho last weekend and stayed in a wonderful B&B called the Blue Heron Inn just outside Rigby. By "we" I mean Teri, Chris, Doug and me. We had a mission, and that was to sprinkle our parents' ashes. We put Mom in the Snake River in Idaho Falls where she grew up. She always wanted to go back, but we just couldn't work it out in her last years. Daddy is in the Henry's Fork river, he loved fishing that stream, and we spent many happy days at Mack's Inn doing just that before it burned down. I know that this is just a silly gesture, that they can't possibly be aware of this act, but somehow it was something we had to do. I felt a sort of relief when it was done. They have been sitting on my bookcase for 4 years (daddy) and 1 year (mom).
It was weird to see their bone bits as we scattered them. My mom did the same for her dad, sprinkling him in the Henry's Fork, so it was fitting.
